The Mother Lode Martin Luther King Committee presented a wonderful program on January 14th in honor of Martin Luther King's birthday. If you missed it, tune in at 1PM on Sunday, January 21st at 103.5FM in Sonora (or streaming at kaad-lp.org) to hear our recording of the event. Keynote speaker Carmen Perez, musicians Michelle Allison and Dennis Brown and essay winner Courtney Tollhurst are featured, recorded and edited by Tom Strother.
Hmmm. What to do next? Our Equestrian Expert, Earlene Smith, gives great advice this week to Sue Thoms, who poses the hypothetical question, "If my nine-year old daughter got a horse for Christmas, where do we start?" Don't miss Equestrian Arts, each month on the 2nd and 4th Fridays and Saturdays at 12:30pm on KAAD-LP. Earlene shares practical ideas from her wealth of experience as a horsewoman.
First Tip: There is no such things as a free horse. - Earlene Smith

When you think of the Gold Rush Era, most likely visions of scruffy miners come to mind: rough guys in rowdy camps exploding in brawls and booze. But those rough guys weren't the only folks here. The ladies who lived it had their own stories to tell.
KAAD-LP programmers Elena Holcomb and Sue Thoms have gathered those stories, creating a number of upcoming audio segments on Local News of Yesteryear that focus on The Women. Their voices are brought to life with the help of a variety of local actors - and sound engineer Russ Holcomb.
Don't miss these tales - first and third Fridays, and Saturdays at 12:30PM, right here on KAAD-LP.

Thanks to the efforts of an amazing group of people, on Sunday, January 29 at 4PM, we first flipped the switch. With the mellow tunes of Rusty's Sunday Jazz, KAAD-LP started its first broadcast over the airwaves. We've moved into a new era as on-air broadcasters.
